Just Missed My Top 200: Leisure Process - Cashflow
Leisure Process - Ross Middleton & Gary Barnacle - snagged two spots on my Top 200 with "Anxiety" (#106) and "Love Cascade" (#7). Another single from the band, 1982's "Cashflow", just missed joining them on the list.
With a catchy hook and a peppy beat, "Cashflow" deserved to be a hit. Unfortunately it wasn't to be, and Leisure Process broke up soon afterwards.
Be back next week with another song that nearly made the Top 200.
Gary Barnacle may actually be the most featured player on the blog! .... he played sax for M, Howard Devoto, Simple Minds, Ultravox, Classix Noveaux, Visage, Pet Shop Boys, Pete Shelley, China Crisis, Erasure .... the list is endless
I got into a discussion the other week about how the saxophone features so prominently in new wave music. Everything from "Rio" to "Who Can It Be Now" and hundreds more songs. Besides the synthesizer, the sax is probably one of the hallmarks of the new wave sound. And Barnacle was one of the best!
