Number 75: Fischer-Z - So Long
John Watts formed Fischer-Z in 1977, and the band's first LP, Word Salad, enjoyed moderate success in Britain. Their 1980 follow-up, Going Deaf For A Living, duplicated this feat when the song "So Long" hit the top 20 in multiple European countries. Fischer-Z (with varying lineups of musicians) would go on to release more than 10 albums, maintaining a cult following until the present day. "So Long" takes the #75 spot in their only appearance on my Top 200.
Ah the full recipe for a fantastic 80s song - synth, hooks, angst, stalking
So Long may have made my personal Top 10
also Going Deaf has several other good tunes that get play on the always-awesome Underground 80s channel on somafm.com. Underground 80s tagline is "Early 80s UK Synthpop and a bit of New Wave"... so you know it is a like a 24 hour orgasm, every single day
